Overview: Respiratory Therapy Student Tech PRN, as needed Under the supervision of a licensed and Registered Respiratory Therapist the student would assist in providing basic respiratory care services in accordance with physicians' orders, department policies and procedures, as well as respiratory therapy-driven protocols. The Student Respiratory Care Tech would be responsible for providing services to infant, pediatric, and adult patients throughout the hospital, and emergency department. Responsibilities: Clinical Excellence/Patient Care * Assesses and evaluates the respiratory status of infant, pediatric, and adult patients. * Determines requirements for treatment, such as method, duration of therapy, and precautions to be taken compatible with physicians' orders. * Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, and consults with licensed therapists and/or physician if adverse reaction occurs. * Applies and monitors medical gases and related respiratory therapy modalities. * Reviews patient information to assess patient condition. * Perform airway clearance, administer aerosolized medications, and assist with oxygen therapy administration/transport. * Able to complete all respiratory care modalities as demonstrated competent in the classroom setting under the direct supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Leadership/Collaboration * Works collaboratively with the team of Respiratory Therapists, Physicians, Nurses, and other health care professionals to manage patient care. * Enforces safety rules and ensures careful adherence to physicians' orders. Development/Education * Educates patients and their families about their conditions and teaches appropriate disease management techniques, such as breathing exercises and the use of medications and respiratory equipment. * Explains treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears. Qualifications: Minimum Requirements Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position. Preferred or Specialized Not required to perform the essential functions of the position. Education: Currently enrolled in a CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. Must be in good standing with the college/program and passing all currently enrolled Respiratory Care Classes per program passing criteria. Experience: One year of clinical experience in Respiratory Care. License(s)/Certification(s): Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification ACLS, PALS, NRP or proof of completion within 1 year of employment.
