About this opportunity 

Align Technology, Inc. (the maker of Invisalign(r) aligners) is looking for a Research Scientist Intern. The Research Scientist Intern will be responsible for assisting the Emerging Technology team. He/she will work closely on individual research projects focusing on new electrochemical biosensor development while assisting ongoing research and development projects. The position is located at Align's corporate headquarters in San Jose, California, and is for a full-time role starting in the summer 2025.

Intern Program Details 

What sets this program apart from others? 

You'll join a community of interns and participate in events curated just for you, including skills workshops and intimate sessions with Executive leaders. You will be assigned a manager to guide and support you through our individualized GROW Professional Development process. You'll also receive a mentor to provide day-to-day advice as you become the best professional version of yourself.  

How long is the program? 

Our Internship Program begins May 2024 and runs through August 2024. You'll contribute to challenging projects with high impact during this 10 to 12-week paid internship. 

In this role, you will  

* Assist research scientists in laboratory benchtop testing.
* Perform laboratory benchtop test to evaluate product performance.
* Analyze and perform statistical data analysis and interpretation.
* Duties will also include general engineering support in R&D.
* ​Collaborate with a cross-functional team in product development and test plans.
* Participate in weekly project update meetings and present data, findings, and conclusions to the team.
* ​Work in a fast-paced environment and meet critical deadlines.

In this role, you'll need   

* To be a student currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Chemistry, Biophysics, Bioengineering, or related scientific disciplines.
* ​Hands-on experience with laboratory benchtop testing.  
* Team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Responsibilities may be quite diverse of a technical nature.
* This position is located in San Jose and requires in-person attendance at the office 3 days a week from May-August 2025. *Relocation assistance is not provided*.
* Excellent problem-solving skills, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional team members.
* Strong interpersonal, oral, written, and visual communication skills, with the ability to present findings concisely and effectively.
* Familiarity with software packages for data processing and analysis (e.g. MATLAB, Python, Minitab, Excel).
