Are you enthusiastic about hospitality, people, and beautiful places? By working at Yellowstone National Park, you will get all three! As the Recycler or Recycler Lead, you will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day functions that keep the park running smoothly.

Job Summary:

The Recycler will efficiently collect and sort recyclable materials, operate baling equipment, and maintain sanitation standards in the recycling area. Responsibilities also include the safe operation of vehicles and rental equipment, collaborating with the Sustainability department to enhance waste management practices, and assisting with various programs while ensuring a safe work environment. A positive and collaborative attitude is essential for success in this role.

The Lead Recycler oversees recycling operations at an assigned location, ensuring compliance with environmental management policies and efficient processing of recyclable materials. The role includes supervising and training less experienced technicians, maintaining equipment and safety standards, and collaborating with various departments to improve waste diversion and sustainability efforts. It requires consistent communication with vendors, safe vehicle and equipment operation, and active participation in sustainability initiatives.

The Details:
Position Type: Seasonal
Season Dates: March 2026 - November 2026 (Actual season dates vary depending on location) 
Pay: $18.00 - $18.75/hour
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities:

Recycler - $18.00/hour

* Efficient collection of all recyclable materials for the assigned location and sorting recyclable materials from unrecyclable materials.
* Process all location cardboard as applicable using baling equipment and safe operation of cardboard balers and other equipment.
* Maintain the location recycling area(s) to sanitation and resource management standards.
* Responsible care of location recycling vehicle including safe operation, compliance with all traffic and safety laws, assurance of company vehicle cleanliness, and regular maintenance and safety checks.
* Work with Gardiner Park-wide Recycling Technician to ensure processing of recyclables meets the standards of recycling contractor.
* Safe operation of all rental equipment in use, including not overriding any equipment safety features.
* Work with Sustainability Department to assess waste management opportunities, improve effectiveness of diversion program, and implement program changes as needed.
* Assist with other duties and programs as assigned, such as waste assessments and new program development and implementation.
* Work safely to avoid injuries and accidents, including the proper Personal Protective Equipment (mainly gloves and footwear).
* Maintain a diligent, positive and collaborative attitude amid busy work and visitor conditions.

Lead Recycler - $18.75/hour

* Comply with and help administer Xanterra's environmental management system policies and procedures at assigned location.
* Provide training to and supervision of less experienced Location Recycling Technician(s).
* Provide direct feedback to department managers on recycling processes and performance using existing company guidance and a collaborative, educational approach.
* Initiate or attend departmental meetings and related communications to actively engage location staff with recycling tips and basic support of sustainability program implementation.
* Work with Gardiner Park-wide Recycling Technician to ensure processing of recyclables meets the standards of Four Corners Recycling and to notify vendor of material pick-up scheduling needs.
* Assure efficient collection of all recyclable materials for the assigned location and sort recyclable materials from unrecyclable materials.
* Process all location cardboard as applicable using baling or compacting equipment using safe operation of cardboard balers and other equipment.
* Maintain the location recycling area(s) to sanitation and resource management standards.
* Responsible for location recycling vehicle including safe operation, compliance with all traffic and safety laws, assurance of company vehicle cleanliness, and regular maintenance and safety checks, and reporting accidents and near misses.
* Safe operation of all rental equipment in use, including not overriding any equipment safety features.
* Work with Sustainability Department to assess waste management opportunities, improve effectiveness of diversion program, and implement program changes as needed.
* Work safely to avoid injuries and accidents, including the proper Personal Protective Equipment (mainly gloves and footwear).
* Maintain a diligent, positive attitude amid busy work and visitor conditions and support mentoring of Location Recycling Technician(s).

Qualifications:

* Must have ability to work with minimum of supervision to complete assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner.
* Must be at least 21 years of age (could drive a vehicle over one ton).
* Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license with safe driving record and ability to operate 1-ton vehicle.
* Driver practice testing will be required once on location. 
* Prior knowledge of or interest in learning waste management and overall park-wide environmental programs in order to serve as a resource for fellow employees and park visitors.
* Knowledge of or interest in learning recyclable materials, processing methods, and collection systems.
* Respiratory protection will be worn when required. OSHA standards require a clean-shaven face.

Physical Requirements include:

* Must be able to lift, push or pull bins with weights of 50-100 pounds on a daily basis
* Must be able to stand and bend throughout an 8 hour shift
* Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam provided by Xanterra's partner clinic
