Overview:
Recreation Therapist
The Recreation Specialist is responsible and accountable for the planning, directing and provision of assessments and of psycho-educational groups and therapeutic recreational activities to patients in accordance with the North Carolina Board of Therapeutic Recreation, physician's orders, and Novant Health -SP.
Schedule: PRN Flexible Availability Required: Weekdays and Weekends as Needed
Location: Charlotte, NC Presbyterian Medical Center
Responsibilities:
Your Role & Impact:
* Conduct assessments for new patients
* Provide clinical services to a wide range of ages, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
* Keep accurate and appropriate record
* Take patients to the gym groups
* Conduct recreational therapy groups and therapeutic recreational activities to patients in accordance with the North Carolina Board of Therapeutic Recreation and physician's orders
* Daily check in with patients on each unit
* Assist with MILIEU management
* Maintain a caseload and responsible for documentation regarding caseload patients
* Directing and provision of assessment and of psycho-educational groups
* Able to participate in process improvements, team meetings, and/or dept specific committee meetings
Qualifications:
What You'll Need:
* Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Graduate of National Recreation and Parks Association / American Association of Leisure and Recreation (NRPA/AALR) accredited college or university with a Bachelor degree. New graduates after January 1, 2007 must hold National Certification (CTRS) and North Carolina State Licensure (LRT). Current practitioners must have the ability to obtain National Certification (CTRS) and North Carolina State Licensure (LRT) by January 1, 2008.
* Experience: One year clinical experience in Behavioral Health, preferred.
* Licensure/Certification: NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required.
* Additional Skills (required): Conduct assessments. Maintain a caseload and responsible for documentation regarding caseload patients. Provide clinical services to a wide range of ages, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Keep accurate and appropriate record. Perform well in a work environment dependent upon mutual support, a high degree of independence, and a strong team concept. Skill at presenting to groups, facilitating group interaction and providing one to one sessions as needed.
* Additional Skills (preferred): One year experience of mental health/substance abuse background with a working knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and therapeutic interventions with the mental health/substance abuse population.
