Job Summary:

The Rail Car Craftsman III is responsible for maintaining the passenger car fleet by inspecting and performing necessary maintenance and repairs of the railway cars, safely and efficiently, ensuring train cars meet expectations, and presentation standards, and are safe and suitable for service. 

The Details:
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
Pay: $22.55
Schedule:4 day 10 hour work week ( Monday - Thursday) ( Off Friday, Saturday, Sunday).

Responsibilities:

* Fully understands and supports Xanterra Mission Statement, cultural pillar, community commitment, and Core Values. 
* Cleans and prepares surfaces of railway equipment before painting by sanding, sandblasting, scraping, or washing to remove dirt, rust, and old paint.
* Repairs minor damage to surfaces, such as dents or scratches, to ensure the paint adheres properly.
* Uses primers, topcoats, and other coatings to protect railway equipment from weathering, rust, and wear.
* Apply paint to passenger cars, freight cars, and locomotives to maintain their appearance and protect them from corrosion.
* Use specialized paints and coatings designed for outdoor conditions, such as those that are weather-resistant and durable.
* Assists in Inspecting painted surfaces regularly for damage and deterioration, ensuring timely touch-ups or full repaints as necessary.
* Uses spray guns, brushes, rollers, and other tools for applying paint.
* Assists car craftsman as required. 
* Wears Respirator and additional protective equipment as required by job. 
* Uses common industry practices and techniques for preparing, mixing, blending, preserving, and applying. 
* Operates scaffolding, ladders, or scissor lifts for high areas or painting large structures.
* Completes masking and vinyl stencil applications as required.
* Keep track of paint supplies, including ordering new materials when necessary.
* Ensure that paints and other materials are stored properly, following safety guidelines.
* Maintains cleanliness of all painting, spraying, and mixing equipment to company standards. 
* Maintain records of painting schedules, materials used, and any specific repairs or repainting carried out.
* Other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

*  Possess a valid Arizona Driver's License and comply with Xanterra/GCR Vehicle Policy.

*  Minimum of two years of experience working in industrial or automotive painting. 

*  Previous experience prepping and painting on metal surfaces.

*  Previous experience in mixing paint and knowledge of pigments.

*  Must be at least 19 years of age to comply with Xanterra/GCR Vehicle Policy.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:

* Frequently standing, walking, handling, reaching outward, reaching above shoulder, climbing, crawling, squatting/kneeling, bending/stooping lifting/carrying up to 50lbs, and pushing/pulling up to 25lbs. Twisting, using eye/hand coordination, manual dexterity, using wrist motion, and ascending and descending ladder. 
* Occasionally sitting, lifting/carrying up to 100lbs, and pushing/pulling up to 100lbs. 
* Constantly listening, hearing, seeing, and speaking.
* Will be required to stand and walk for long periods of time on cement floors and to occasionally walk on uneven surfaces and onboard moving equipment.
