Administers radiation treatments under the direction of a radiation oncologist. Maintains daily records on each patient. Performs simulations and makes custom blocks. Participates in Quality Assurance monitoring and quality control checks on the equipment. Cares for patients of all ages, with a variety of malignant and/or sometimes benign diseases. Reports to the site supervisor.

Responsibilities:

* Greets patient utilizing AIDET, verifies patient in identification, reviews chart for proper radiation treatment parameters and physician prescriptions. Informs patients and families about the treatment process and answers questions.

* Prepares patient for treatment. Positions equipment according to plan. Takes portal films or IGRT scans to ensure treatment protocols are accurately set up and followed.Verifies proper dosage of ionizing radiation for patient as prescribed by physician. Administers treatment to patient.

* Monitors patient throughout treatment process by checking video monitors and intercom. Informs physician anytime patient experiences distress or side effects related to treatment process.

* Records each patients' treatment in EMR and proper notes for accurate treatment and set-up.

* Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the filed by reading appropriate journals, books, and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences and education opportunities.

* As directed by radiation oncologist, constructs immobilization devices, positions and marks patient during simulation.

Qualifications:

Required Education for Staff Job Levels

Satisifactory completion of a JERC accredited Radiation Therapy Program

Required Licensure and Certifications

ARRT (T) boards completion within in 6 month of hire

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Satisifactory completion of a JERC accredited Radiation Therapy Program

Knowledge of linear accelerators and record and verify systems. Ability to operate radiation therapy equipment. 

Ability to manage patients. 

Ability to follow oral and written instructions

PREFERRED Qualifications

BLS certification
