Responsibilities:
The Opportunity
We're hiring a Senior RF Embedded Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, and prototyping of our next-generation IoT tracking devices. You'll be the first technical hire on the hardware engineering side-owning circuit design, firmware, integration, and RF performance in a tight feedback loop with product and manufacturing teams.
This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you'll take a concept from napkin sketch to functional prototype, validate performance, and work closely with our GM of Hardware and contract manufacturers to scale it into production.
What You'll Do
* Design and prototype embedded systems for low-power, RF-connected devices (LoRa, LTE-M, BLE, GNSS, etc.).
* Develop and debug firmware on microcontrollers using C/C++
* Design and test RF circuits, antennas, and matching networks for reliable comms in field environments.
* Build and validate custom PCBs (schematics, layout guidance, component selection).
* Conduct bench-level testing, including signal analysis, power profiling, and RF range validation.
* Implement FIPS 140-3 compliant encryption and secure boot mechanisms to meet DoD cybersecurity requirements.
* Create test plans and documentation for transitioning prototypes to manufacturing.
* Collaborate closely with contract manufacturers and hardware leads to support DFM, DFT, and QA workflows.
* Support FCC, TAA, or MIL-STD pre-certification efforts as needed.
Qualifications:
What We're Looking For
* 5+ years of experience designing embedded systems with integrated RF components.
* Strong knowledge of RF fundamentals, modulation, and low-power wireless protocols.
* Experience with embedded firmware development and debugging in constrained environments.
* Proficient in lab testing with tools like oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, and signal generators.
* Familiarity with implementing FIPS-compliant cryptographic modules and secure key storage.
* Able to take full ownership of board bring-up, debug, and field validation.
* S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
Bonus Points For
* Experience with LoRa, LTE-M/NB-IoT, GNSS, UWB, or BLE in constrained environments.
* Previous work in DoD, aerospace, industrial IoT, or high-reliability sectors.
* Familiarity with Altium, KiCad, or similar for schematic capture and layout review.
* Python, MATLAB, or similar for signal/data processing and RF analysis.
* Hands-on experience with environmental or EMI/EMC testing workflows.
* Open-source hardware or firmware contributions.
Why This Role Matters
You won't just be coding firmware or simulating RF-you'll be building the foundation of a new hardware product line that's headed straight into real-world military use. You'll see your designs go from bench to battlefield.
