About this opportunity
The Computer Aided Geometry Technician will be part of the PR&D Software team at San Jose. This team's mission is to innovate and take new orthodontic devices to the market. The Software team develops the next generation of 3D applications (ported to cloud), to engineer the shape of our customized, mass-production appliance and increase the applicability and efficacy of Align clinical treatments. The position ability to work with meshed CAD models, high accountability, eye for detail, cross functional communication and integration with larger Software Development.
In this role, you will
* Process 3D STL like geometries for cases that have run into any issues during production. Expected volume ~20 cases / day.
* Understand the larger context and functionality of devices being processed, investigate reported issues and then use Mesh / STL editing software similar to Materialise Magics, Geomagic, Control X, Meshlab, sculpt 3D to fix the problem.
* QC key aspects of the parts in collaboration with the Software and cross functional team before handing it off to production.
* Help onboard third party 3D meshing software as needed.
* Use the above knowledge to effectively test ongoing development features as time permits.
* Collaborate with cross functional teams like Bio Mechanical Engineers, Process engineers to communicate your findings and also take their perspective to modify the technician workflow.
* Collaborate with manufacturing / Operations to make sure there are no logical flaws and process gaps that cause production distress.
* Integrate with Software development activities / new features to give and receive future impact.
* Operate as a part of a scrum team focused on research and development: actively participate in sprint planning, demo and retrospective, attend daily standups.
* Act as a stakeholder in product definition from conception to initial release to mass scaling, contribute to definition of product success criteria.
* Execute manual tests for 3D software, visually inspect 3D objects, find patterns with strong passion to get to the bottom of the things
* Understand the end-to-end process
In this role, you'll need
* 5+ years of mesh editing experience with any 3D mesh editing tool. E.g. Meshlab, Magics, Blender, Geomagic, Control X, Sketchup etc
* 5+ years of experience working with professional CAD software tools from Quality Control perspective.
* Experience working in Agile teams
* Understanding of the role and best practices of SQA, testing processes and methodologies
* Analytic thinking, ability to systematize information and learn complex things quickly
* BS in mathematics, computer science, engineering, or equivalent degree, or equivalent years of experience in working with 3D CAD software.
Optional:
* Programming experience is a very strong positive. Python or C++ would be excellent.
* Any previous experience as manual or automation Software testing is strong plus.
* Experience automating the 3D CAD software is desirable.
* Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms is a strong plus.
* Experience in startup or research team
* Experience working in distributed team
