Overview:
The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and managing complex systems that integrate hardware and software components. This role requires expertise in embedded systems, cloud computing, and UI/UX development, as well as a strong ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
***Location: Onsite (hybrid) in Lincolnshire, IL or Holtsville, NY.
Responsibilities:
* Architect, design and develop embedded systems solutions using Java and other relevant technologies. Lead "first-use" integration efforts and APIs from hardware/firmware business units to expand on existing architecture and identify use-case issues.
* Champions new thinking and creativity in team members to cultivate and retain top talent. Coaches' others on how to effectively develop, communicate, and implement new solutions or new ways of enhancing existing ones.
* Maintains keen awareness of competitor products and development direction to help direct designs to surpass the competition.
* Contribute to UI/UX design and development for "fast-water" front-end prototyping. Collaborate with front-end developers to create intuitive, responsive and demonstrative UI/UX designs.
* Build demo "scripts" of developed proof-of-concepts (PoCs) and assist with the set-up, maintenance and tear-down of demos and prototypes.
* Lead and manage Kubernetes clusters and ensure efficient orchestration of containerized applications.
* Architect and implement cloud solutions, with a preference for Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
* Conduct system diagnostics and performance tuning to optimize system functionality.
* Work closely with technical product owners (TPOs) and other stakeholders, product management and engineering teams to define system requirements and deliverables and execute those deliverables in fastest approach to MVP (minimum viable product).
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree required.
* 9+ years of experience.
* Java Programming experience: Advanced proficiency in Java for developing robust and scalable applications.
* Android Development experience: Expertise in design, development and deployment of Android-capable devices in Java and/or Kotlin, including intents and threading models.
* AI Integration experience: Experience in working with ready-built AI libraries and integrating them into projects.
* Cloud Computing experience: Proficiency in cloud technologies, with a preference for GCP.
* UI/UX Development experience: Ability to collaborate on front-end design and enhance user experiences.
* Database Architecture experience: Understanding of database architecture principles and best practices.
* Team Leadership Experience: Leading/ managing experience, experience and expertise in scheduling and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's degree preferred with 6+ years of experience.
* Leadership conflict resolution experience.
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
* Kubernetes experience: Strong expertise in managing Kubernetes clusters.
* Embedded Systems experience: Experience in designing and implementing embedded systems.
* AI Development experience: Familiarity with LLM development and training, AI tools (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.).
* Systems Diagnostics experience: Ability to conduct thorough system diagnostics and troubleshoot issues, as well as "post-mortem" analysis and documentation.
* CI/CD Tools experience: Jenkins or other automated build/deploy tools preferred.
