				Overview:

The Principal Mechanical Engineer designs and analyzes products for cosmetic and functional housing, internal components, and development, including evaluation of existing standard parts, equipment and packaging. Verifies designs using CAE, manual methods, and functional test. Designs and performs experiments for verification analysis.

In this role, you will be communicating on a regular basis with our JDM suppliers overseas.

This is a dynamic team dedicated to working on Tablet and Point of Sale products, and associated accessories. 

This is a hybrid role with 3-days in the office. Candidates local to Austin, TX preferred.

Responsibilities:

* Architects, designs, and supports developing, and testing of rugged mobile computing devices. Creates specifications for projects. Leads technology roadmap process, and recommends project approach and goals.
* Champions new thinking and creativity in team members to cultivate and retain top talent. Coaches others on how to effectively develop, communicate, and implement new solutions.
* Prioritizes quality and seeks out improvements in all aspects of the mechanical projects.
* Maintains keen awareness of competitor products and development direction to help direct designs to surpass the competition.
* Uses status as a developer of novel and creative solutions to build business and bring positive attention to technologies and services.
* With other engineering disciplines, develops innovative, next generation ideas and solutions to meet client needs before the competition.
* Analyzes competitor intellectual property and participates in activities related to protecting intellectual property.
* Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
* Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups.
* Serves as organization spokesperson on specialized projects or programs.
* Acts as prime consultant on large projects that affect the organization's long-term goals and objectives.
* Mentors and oversees the activities of others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree or Master's in an appropriate mechanical engineering discipline required.
* Bachelor's degree and 9+ years experience or Master's degree and 6+ years' experience.
* Experience architecting, designing, and supporting development and testing of rugged mobile computing devices. 
* Experience creating specifications for projects, and leading a technology roadmap process.
* Proficiency with 3D CAD required.
* Experience designing polymer molded parts and sheet metal.
* Familiar with mechanical part costing, including tooling.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Proficiency with Creo and Windshill preferred.
* Strong leadership qualities.
* Failure analysis experience.
