The Plumber's Helper performs a variety of basic plumbing tasks related to assisting with repairs and replacement of plumbing systems. Responsibilities: A day in the life of a Plumber's Helper at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: * Under the general guidance and direction of a qualified plumber, performs tasks such as: Maintaining the proper operations of sinks and toilets by changing components as needed for proper operation, Working drain cleaning equipment to clear stoppages. Making minor piping repairs. Ability to change circulating pumps. Learning and demonstrating understanding of how domestic hot water systems work and its related equipment. * Maintains all Plumbing tools and hand tools in good working condition. * Escalates to Supervisor and/or Manager Plant Operations items of specialized areas in need of repair. * Under guidance and direction of a qualified plumber, works from blueprints, drawings, layout or other specifications; assures work is done to Plumbing code standards. * Ability to stand, walk, lift, carry, push and pull material and equipment weighing up to 80 pounds, occasionally working on a ladder or underground in pipe tunnels. * Ability to work in environments that contain dirt, dust, fumes, grease, water, steam and various Plant Operational compounds. * Ability to work inside and outside on wet surfaces. * Ability to be able to utilize the Maintenance Connection system for work requests and Preventive Maintenance. * Other duties and/or projects as assigned. * Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Qualifications: Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: * High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), GED equivalent programs, and/or other Vocational degrees/certificates with courses related to the plumbing field. * Minimum of 1 year of experience in general construction, preferably the plumbing trade. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
