Responsibilities:

In keeping with the Marian Regional Medical Center health care philosophy, the Certified Physical Therapist Assistant performs all phases of physical therapy treatment and documentation; performs other tasks as assigned related to quality of care and effective department function. Under the guidance and direction of a Physical Therapist: participates in the treatment program planning; administering therapy modalities, procedures and tests; documentes accurate patient records and progress notes; maintaines appropriate oral or written contact with the supervising PT, co workers, and the public. Ensures a safe work environment by being alert for unsafe conditions in the home and gives appropriate instructions for their correction; Assists Physical Therapy Supervisor with Q.I. as required. Performs other related duties such as participating in departmental functions and activities as required, including in-service education and clerical and other tasks relevant to effective department function as necessary.

*  Assists in the administration of physician-ordered physical therapy treatment for mobility, transferring, strength and activity tolerance, pain control, and range of motion using accepted physical therapy procedures under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. Adheres to infection control policies and protocols

*  Teaches patient and/or family in functional activities and treatment techniques of physical therapy as appropriate to meet needs.

*  Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs.

*  Helps the patient accomplish the treatment plan, accept therapeutic devices and progress to goals by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and in using assistive and supportive devices

*  Competently administers physical therapy treatments such as applying heat/cold/moist packs, giving massages, whirlpool, ultrasound machines, etc. under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist

*  Communicates patient progress toward goals and rehabilitative potential to licensed physical therapist overseeing patient and to other members of the healthcare team as applicable. Notifies licensed physical therapist and physician of any unanticipated changes in the patient's condition. Makes appropriate recommendations within individual scope of practice. Participates in discharge planning and care coordination. Collaborates with licensed physical therapist to ensure physician ordered treatment plan is followed and carried out. Collaborates with other team members to insure appropriate utilization of services.

*  Maintains the standards of conduct as promulgated by the American Physical Therapy Association (as a registered Physical Therapist Assistant); adheres to the professional code of ethics in the performance of duties.

*  Demonstrates specialized clinical knowledge and skills in an identified area of expertise as applicable

Qualifications:

Required

* Graduate of accredited physical therapy assistant program
* One (1) Year Acute Care or SNF experience within the last 5 years
* Physical Therapy Assistant: CA (PTA:CA)
* Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) (within 30 Days)
* Driver's License: CA (AUTO:CA)
* Auto Insurance (AUTO-INS)
