The Perfusion Technician prepares patient charts and sets up, prepares, cleans, and maintains par levels for all equipment.

Responsibilities:

A day in the life of a Perfusion Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

* Collects and completes the Perfusion preoperative data form and enters initial data into the computers.
* Sets up and prepares all equipment for use by cleaning all perfusion tools according to policy and procedure and checks for damage and sterility.
* Removes and discards disposables from the pump according to policy and procedure at the completion of each procedure.
* Sets up and operates the auto-transfusion devices according to policy and procedure, completes the auto-transfusion checklist and records all necessary data.
* Maintains par levels for the Perfusion supply room and the supply carts.
* Completes the quality controls for the Hemochron Instrument, records all results and maintains accurate levels.
* Performs maintenance procedures on the Temperature Control Modules, the Heart Lung machines, and the auto-transfusion devices and reports all equipment problems and contacts the companies for
necessary repair and rentals.
* Monitors the availability of the intra-aortic balloon pumps and completes the daily checklist and records the location and availability of all pumps.
* Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
* Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

* High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

* Some college.
* Some experience in a hospital related position.

Contacts:

* Regular contact with Medical Center personnel, patients and visitors.

Working Conditions:

* Lifts a minimum of 70 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 300 lbs. and stands a minimum of 8 hours a day.
