Overview: This People Analytics Data Scientist is a senior role that will lead the development of advanced analytics and data science solutions, applying statistical modeling, experimentation, and predictive methods to shape Avalara's workforce strategy at scale. You'll translate complex people questions into robust analyses using tools such as R, Python, SQL, and modern analytics platforms. You'll partner with senior People, Finance, and business leaders to drive executive decision-making. This role reports to the VP, People Partners and Head of People Analytics. This is a remote position in the United States. #LI-Remote Responsibilities: * You will design and implement rigorous analyses including the use of experimental design, causal inference analyses, and machine learning models using R, Python and SQL. * You will work directly with large, complex HR and business datasets to build, validate, and refine predictive and explanatory models that answer critical workforce questions. * Your work will include data preparation, feature engineering, model evaluation, and translating results into clear, applicable insights for partners. * You will also collaborate with stakeholders to refine hypotheses, ensure analytical rigor, and help use data-driven decisions. Qualifications: * Experience with design and execution of advanced analytics projects, including experimentation, causal inference, and machine learning, from problem definition through delivery. * Proficiency in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience building, validating, and iterating on statistical or ML models using large, complex datasets. * 5+ years of experience applying rigorous analytical methods (e.g., experimental design, quasi-experimental approaches, predictive modeling) to inform business or people-related decisions. * Experience delivering multiple high-impact analytical outputs in parallel, balancing speed, accuracy, and stakeholder needs. * Experience communicating complex analytical findings to senior, non-technical stakeholders and influencing decisions with data. * Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field such as statistics, economics, data science, computer science, or equivalent practical experience. The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations. Colorado $136,400-$225,000 (annually) Washington $136,400-$248,600 (annually) California $136,400-$272,500 (annually) NYC $165,100-$272,500 (annually) The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The successful candidate's actual salary/wage may be based on various factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and the employee's role.
