The Kodiak Area Native Association was formed in 1966 as a 501 (C)(3) non-profit corporation providing health and social services for the Alaska Natives of the Koniag region. The Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) service area includes the City of Kodiak and six Alaska Native villages: Akhiok, Karluk, Old Harbor, Ouzinkie, Port Lions, and Larsen Bay.
Services provided by KANA include an Ambulatory Medical Care and Dental Care, Pharmacy, Contract Health, Community Health Aide Program, Substance Abuse Prevention, Intervention/Outreach, Social Services, non-clinical community Mental Health, and Youth Prevention Projects. Other services provided by the organization include Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program, Vocational Rehabilitation, Early Childhood programs, Education, Employment and Training programs, Infant Learning Program, a full service Fitness Center and Tribal Operations/Environmental Health.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Patient Services Representative works at the front desk ensuring exceptional customer service. The position is responsible for completing patient registration, scheduling and incoming phone calls. This position requires excellent customer service and organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Greeting patients in a courteous and helpful manner upon patient check-in to clinic. Answers phones and directs call to appropriate staff member or department. Personally responds to eligibility and third party payer questions.
Screening patients for changes in demographic information, eligibility for treatment as a beneficiary, eligibility for third party payment of services and ensuring all data is complete and accurate in RPMS and/or current practice management system.
Notifies patients of responsibility for any payment related to elective services.
Collects payments from patients in accordance with clinic guidelines to ensure all elective services are prepaid.
Accurately completes documentation for the registration process; including obtaining appropriate signatures, assisting with the collection of CIB documentation, insurance documentation as well as scanning the collected information into Vista Imaging.
Accurately schedule medical and dental appointments ensuring the provider and scheduling guidelines are followed; working collaboratively with medical staff and other health care teams to facilitate patient care appointments. Assist in the referral process and/or redirecting patients when specialists are on site.
Strictly adheres to the provisions of the Privacy Act, HIPAA and KANA policies.
Monitor the waiting area watching for patients who have arrived but may have forgotten to check-in or who may have checked-in but have been waiting for a longer than anticipated time. Call to nurse's station to alert when an elder or very ill patient is waiting to be seen.
Understand and explain KANA privacy practices, contract health process, alternate resource requirement and medical services offered.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATED, LICENSEE, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one year working with the public in an office setting, answering telephones, operating standard office equipment and PCs. One year medical office experience and knowledge of medical billing procedures and medical terminology is preferred. Strong customer service skills. Multi-task oriented. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, KANA employees and the public.
