Overview:
Team member is responsible for all front-line duties described below as well as monitoring staff for quality, productivity, and efficiency. This position is responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed, additionally leading the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software as needed.
Team member is responsible for pre-analytical collection and processing of laboratory specimens, to include registration and verification activities. Team member is responsible for gathering and processing patient demographic and financial information, as well as lab order verification and placement. Team member performs EKGs as appropriate in the NH Laboratory Patient Service Centers. Team member validates and processes specimens delivered by both patients and clients, facilitating timely and appropriate specimen preparation for transport to the testing laboratory. Cross training required in multiple access points. Team member must be able to make decisions and solve problems. Team member will assist in the evaluation of new/modified techniques when required. They will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software, as necessary.
Qualifications:
* Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred.
* Experience: 1 year of Relevant specimen collection & processing experience, required. 3 year of Relevant specimen collection & processing experience, preferred.
* Licensure/Certification:PBT or MLA (ASCP, ASPT, AMT, NHA, AHA, or other nationally or regionally approved agency), required.
* Additional Skills (required): Phlebotomy/Medical Laboratory Assistant certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment.
Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks and communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures. Sufficient knowledge of terminology and computer skills to interact with Novant Health's broader patient access team to ensure accurate billing procedures. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations; skill in organizing and prioritizing work in a stressful environment with changing priorities. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff, and the public. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work both independently and as a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; competency in customer relation skills. Must be able to interact with individuals of all cultures and levels of authority. Ability to travel to multiple facilities as needed.
* Additional Skills (preferred): Computer skills using spreadsheet and word processing.
