Overview:
St. Luke's Health System in Boise is seeking a Patient Educator RN to join our Children's Endocrinology Clinic team. This position is located at the Children's Pavilion.
What You Can Expect:
The Patient Educator will work with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes patients and their parents. The Patient Educator will provide education, communication, and support for their diabetes management. As well as, provide rx support and management, education on injections and/or pump, diet education and continued management of their diabetes.
The Diabetic Educator will be embedded within the diabetes clinic.
The team works on a rotating schedule between 3 roles: educator of the day (working with the physicians in their diabetes appointment times); educator one on one (working and meeting with patients and their families one on one educating on current dosage, food selections, and overall supporting their diabetes diagnosis; or as the inpatient educator (providing education- in depth- to patients and their families as new onsets in the hospital, or returning to the hospital after diagnosis).
Schedule: 4, 9 hour shifts between Monday - Friday, Day hours - rotating every 6 weeks on call for nights/weekends
Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor's of Nursing Degree
* Experience: 1 years'
* Licenses/Certifications: Current RN License in the State of Practice AND Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certified through American Safety and Health Institute, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Certified Diabetes Educator - highly ideal
* Experience working with Type 1 and 2 patients
Responsibilities:
The Patient Educator assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the effectiveness of the organizations health education programs for patients and community residents.
* Teaches and Provides support to patients Based on the specific needs and learning ability of the patient.
* Coordinate the patient education with other disciplines as it relates to the program specialty.
* Review and update patient teaching materials related to the program specialty.
* May assist patients with developing skills they need to manage their disease through behavior modification.
* Provides comprehensive education to clients who have self-selected the learning opportunity.
* Provides individualized patient teaching and support to patients Based on the specific needs and learning ability of the patient.
* Assists in development, implementation, and evaluation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and standards of care.
* Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
