Overview:
The Pathology Lab Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the dermatopathology laboratory, ensuring the timely, efficient and accurate processing of specimens, managing laboratory staff, maintaining quality control, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Laboratory Manager works closely with Lab Leadership, Lab Medical Director, laboratory staff, physicians, and other stakeholders to ensure laboratory operations are aligned with the Forefront's goals and objectives. This is a working manager position, performing lab bench duties to ensure timely specimen processing and providing coverage for staff time off on a daily basis as needed.

Responsibilities:
* Oversees and maintains the day-to-day operations of the lab, ensuring lab processing turn around time and quality standards are met.
* Maximizes efficiency, productivity and teamwork of laboratory staff, by providing daily communication, supervision and direction.
* Responsible for the training and development of staff, including competency based orientation for each role.
* Assists with ensuring staff, systems, and policies remain compliant with all federal, state, local regulatory agencies including CLIA, HIPAA, Fire & RCRA through continuing education and monitoring.
* Ensures appropriate procedures are followed in response to incidents requiring corrective action, including investigating, documenting the root cause, and recommending whether performance correction is needed.
* Maintains productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustments as needed to improve the effectiveness of the operation.
* Optimizes, validates, and develops operations, quality, and troubleshooting protocols for new or modified procedures.
* Implements and maintains quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
* Monitors and maintains medical laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards and arranging preventative maintenance, replacement or repair as needed. Oversees supply management as well.
* Collaborates with Laboratory Systems Administrator and IT to optimize the LIS, interfaced systems and workflows.
* Provides workflow analysis and development for process improvement and gathers information necessary for the selection of new tools and systems.
* Remains current with advances in pathology and laboratory technology.
* Performs bench duties as needed to ensure appropriate turnaround times.
* Complies with state and professional continuing education licensure requirements.
* Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
* Minimum of Associates Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related program required.
* HT/L (ASCP) certification is required.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in a high-volume pathology lab and 3 years of experience in a leadership position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Ability to safely operate various laboratory equipment.
* Must possess understanding of protocols and chemicals related to staining procedures.
* Must possess knowledge of CLIA lab requirements.
* Must be detail oriented.
* Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
* Demonstrated leadership experience. Must be able to demonstrate leadership by serving as an example to others with regard to professional behavior, handling multiple tasks, maintaining a positive attitude, and in response to organizational change.
* Proficiency with a LIS, EMR, & Microsoft Office. Must be able to learn new software quickly.
* Must possess excellent leadership, organizational, and computer skills.
* Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, leadership team, and pathologists.
* Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
* Ability to use time productively and contribute to high levels of company operational efficiency and effectiveness.
