Responsibilities:
Ensure packaging components assemblies for new and existing packages are designed, specified, controlled and tested resulting in fitness for purpose. Provides a skilled resource to lead the design, evaluation and testing prior to production. To delegate appropriate supporting actions to the Packaging Engineer.
Responsibilities
* Design and approving package specifications for new packaging items. Approval of new bottle, closure, and corrugate items. Attend testing at supplier or production sites may be required. . To actively participate as chief resource for package design creation in order to minimize cost and shorten development timelines. Direct Packaging Engineer in testing of design implementation.
* Review and approve supplier performance, to introduce new products and changes to products efficiently and cost effectively. Participate, lead, and manage as required in the introduction of new packages, the integration of acquisition brands, and alterations to existing specifications. Will be required to travel 1/4- 1/3 of workload for oversight of implementation at plants. Supervise PE in maintenance of digital database, design, development with all packaging components, that is user friendly.
* Identify packaging improvements and technology which will lower our carbon footprint or our cost. Assist the Procurement team on qualification testing for such items. Coordinate tests with local plant managers. Submit budgetary recommendations.
* Assist with technical data as required. Follow through in digital storage filing system for all specifications for transparency and utilization in the RFQ process with suppliers. Contribute to performance development by establishing standards for packaging specifications for products and testing.
* Reduce and eliminate materials and packaging nonconformance by assuring that packaging supplies are approved by FDA and other regulatory agencies as required by law. Maintain a digital file of all components that touch the product to include the caps and bottles. Regularly monitor the internet to identify current and future packaging trends and regulations. Ensure adherence to Personal Safety, Food Safety, Quality and Environmental Policies and Practices.
* Implement a PDS plan that will move toward improving at least one competency per year and improve performance against position description outcomes. Document progress and roadblocks with comments in the PDS system.
* Identify career goals and desired career path to work towards with manager. Document within CDS, and continually develop skills to achieve identified goal, for career development and/or advancement. Develop plan for direct report, and coach towards goals.

* Working knowledge of MS Office Products (Word, Excel and Outlook)
* Experience in process design, implementation and improvement
* Bachelors Degree in Engineering related discipline
* 7 years relevant experience (minimum)
Preferred
* APICS Certification or Six Sigma Certification
* Experience in Alcohol Beverage Industry or CPG overall
