Overview:
Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Phlebotomy and Specimen processing area in a hospital laboratory.
Position Reports To: Laboratory Manager
Responsibilities:
* Supervise, assess, and direct the activities of lab assistants.
* Assist manager with hiring, orientation, scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary action recommendations and compliance with laboratory/organizational policies and procedures.
* Establish clear performance expectations and hold staff accountable for successful job performance and work behavior.
* Oversight of Phlebotomy and Processing training program.
* Respond to issues and concerns from patients, providers, and staff in a timely manner.
* Works with leadership team to review and update procedures, policies, and job aids.
* Ensure employee competencies and certifications are up to date. Plans and coordinates remedial training as needed.
* Participate in inspections and surveys, including but not limited to CAP (College of American Pathologist), DNV, and DOH.
* Support service and laboratory goals, service efficiency, and effectiveness through such activities as participating in problem-solving, demonstrating support for policies, sharing expertise, and contributing to project work and improvement activities.
* Implements corrective actions recommended by Medical Lab Director/Lab Management Team to remain in compliance with CLIA regulations and other regulatory/accrediting bodies.
* Maintains competency in all aspects of the Laboratory Assistant I, Laboratory Assistant II, and Laboratory Assistant III roles.
* Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Laboratory Management Team.
* Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
* High School diploma or GED
* Four years of clinical laboratory experience including processing and phlebotomy.
* MA-P certification
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desired:
* Associate degree
* Knowledge of SoftLab and Epic
* 2 years lead or supervisory experience.
