Pharmacy technicians are persons who are skilled or trained in the practical, technical and distributive aspects of pharmacy practice. In the inpatient and infusion areas, responsibilities include receiving medications, stocking, medication distribution including into automated drug dispensing devices, medication pulling and checking and sterile and non-sterile compounding, including compounding of hazardous drugs. Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in the routine, day to day functions of pharmacy practice. Through the performance of these tasks and through collaboration and teamwork with pharmacists, technicians allow pharmacists to engage in activities that optimize care and bring value to our patients. These activities primarily focus on the quality and the safety of the care provided. Technicians are supervised by licensed pharmacists who verify the accuracy of their work and coach their performance.

Position Reports To:Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacy Supervisor

Responsibilities:

* Receives product and ensures it is stored correctly in specified locations meeting all storage requirements (i.e. refrigeration, room temp, frozen)
* Upon receipt of an order, medication label and/or prompt in automation software, pulls appropriate medication for preparation or dispensing.
* Prepares Intravenous (IV) admixtures and piggyback (PB) syringes in accordance with USP 797 and USP 800 standards.
* Ensures appropriate cleaning and record keeping for sterile compounding areas.
* Compounds non-sterile stock preparations according to established policies and procedures.
* Fills narcotic requisitions while adhering to all policy and procedures related to narcotic documentation, distribution and record keeping.
* Ensures safety in all steps of the medication use process by following institutional policies and procedures and industry standards.
* Fills/stocks floorstock and automated dispensing cabinets, requisitions and other order requests.
* Ensures medications are made and ready for delivery at the appropriate time and based on the patient's clinical status or pharmacist's directive
* Assists in ordering pharmaceuticals, supplies and special orders on a routine and emergency basis.
* Performs unit inspections and manages inventory to ensure product is being stored and used sequentially as to avoid outdating of medications.
* Repackages bulk medications into unit dose packages and batches sterile compounds as needed.
* Assists in organizing and maintaining the cleanliness of the department.
* Answers and responds to telephone, doorbell and EPIC inbasket messaging in a courteous and timely manner.
* Communicates positively and effectively in a collaborative manner with co-workers within and outside the department.
* Performs activities and responsibilities related to the automated pharmacy distribution system including:
* automated cart fill
* first dose distribution
* restocking
* repackaging
* crediting

* Trains new staff and precepts pharmacy students, and pharmacy technician students.
* Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

* High School diploma or GED.
* Active Washington State Pharmacy Technician License or Pharmacist Intern Registration.
* Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, accurate keyboarding, email communication and password management.

 Desired:

* Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
