Responsibilities:
ESSENTiAL DUTiES AND RESPONSiBiLiTiES The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary: - Has the responsibility for the provision of optimum patient care in accordance with the EMS act of 1985 (Act 45) and all regional guidelines/protocols. - Maintains personal knowledge and skills in order to deliver optimum patient care as an EMT role model for other emergency service personnel. - Supervises the performance of EMT trainees and other observers. - Safely operates vehicles of EMS in accordance with the current motor vehicle code of the State of New Mexico. - Stocks and maintains vehicles and its contents in a state of readiness at all times. Maintains documentation of the same. - Works in hazardous environments to insure safety and stabilization of the patient. - Works with local ALS, fire and law enforcement agencies as a team for a coordinated effort on the patients behalf. - Document all patient care, assessments and all service reports in a timely fashion. Documentation shall be legible and accurate. - Maintains crew vehicles, radios, equipment, supplies and quarters in a state of readiness - To act at all times in a professional manner and shall be able to handle conflict situations with professional judgment. - Ensure full compliance with all HiPAA requirements and regulations. SUPERViSORY RESPONSiBiLiTiES This job may or may not have supervisory responsibilities. - Manages work procedures and expedites workflow. - Provides coaching and counseling to team members.
Qualifications:
QUALiFiCATiON REQUiREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must be at least 21 years of age. - Minimum of one (1) year experience as an EMT. Prior EMS experience recommended. - Must have a High School diploma or GED. - Understanding of low voltage power & synergy preferred. LANGUAGE SKiLLS Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in in English may also be required CERTiFiCATES, LiCENSES, REGiSTRATiONS - Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations - Certification by the State of New Mexico as an Emergency Medical Technician. - Valid motor vehicle operator's license that is not under suspension or revocation. - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification meeting AHA standards. - Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and/or Basic trauma Life Support (BTLS) certification. Allowable within one (1) year of employment. - Certified in HAZ-MAT awareness or equivalent that meets Act 45 or obtain certification within one (1) year of employment. - Certified in Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or obtained within one (1) year of employment. PHYSiCAL DEMANDS - Must be in excellent physical health with no medical disabilities that would impair the duties as required by Emergency Medical Technician. - Considerable lifting and moving of heavy patients required-up to 100 lbs - Will need to extricate some patients in a hazardous environment. - Work with present considerable hazards, i.e., explosions, anoxic environments, violent patients and potential fire risks. WORK ENViRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. Employee could be exposed to an environment containing unrestricted second hand tobacco smoke.
