Responsibilities:
* Promotes safety for personnel, racing participants, guests, and horses at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races by performing the following duties.
* Must enforce the West Virginia Rules of Racing while on the racecourse, writing reports of all violations that take place while on duty.
* Arrives on suitable pony at the appointed time to lead procession of riders in post position order to starting gate.
* Leads or trails the post parade of each live race, keeping horses in line for the parade and releasing them for "warm up" before the race.
* Arrives on suitable pony ready for work at the appointed time for opening the track for training during training hours.
* Rides after runaway horse to aid rider in regaining control.
* Catches any loose horses on the track while on duty.
* Diverts riders from competitor involved in accident on racetrack.
* Assists horse ambulance workers to remove injured horse from track.
* Must be available to work for any training or racing hours.
* Grooms and cares for outrider pony.
* Directly oversees safety with respect to all jockeys, exercise riders, and pony people while they are on the track.
* Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the West Virginia Rules of Racing policies and applicable laws.
* Responsibilities include addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Must be an experienced rider, have access to a pony or ponies being used in discharging their duties, and have held a pony rider license.
* Must be able to catch loose or troubled horses while maintaining control of the pony being ridden.
* Must be knowledgeable of the West Virginia Rules of Racing.
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
* Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
* Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
* Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
* Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
* Must qualify for an Outrider's License with the West Virginia Racing Commission.
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Employee must be able to ride for up to 5 hours at a time. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
* The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
