Overview:
The Registered Nurse Specialist in Oncology plays a critical role in providing specialized care to patients undergoing cancer treatment by utilizing the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Working under the supervision of Charge Nurses, they deliver education and guidance to patients, ensuring individualized care and support. With advanced training in oncology and related specialties, they bring expertise in managing complex patient needs and promoting positive outcomes throughout treatment.
Responsibilities:
* Assists in patient assessment, planning individualized treatment programs, and implementing care under the supervision of the Nurse Practitioner or Charge Nurse, utilizing available resources and consulting with appropriate staff.
* Administers medications, including IV therapy (when certified), and coordinates specialty medication delivery while maintaining accurate regimen schedules and monitoring potential drug reactions.
* Implements clinical aspects of care, including obtaining diagnostic tests, assisting in medical or minor surgical procedures, and responding to patient crises following established protocols.
* Ensures safety and compliance by counting controlled substances, adhering to proper techniques for nutrition and therapeutic diet plans, and following standard precautions in care delivery.
* Maintains accurate documentation of patient care encounters, attends mandatory meetings and training, and communicates essential information to relevant staff and departments.
Qualifications:
Education
* Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Experience
* Prefer a minimum of one (1) year clinic experience.
Licenses/Certifications
* Have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state of employment.
* Have and maintain specialized training documentation in area of clinical focus (for example, Hep-C, HIV, Oncology, etc.).
* Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification.
