Overview:
GovCIO is hiring a hybrid Network Storage Engineer for designing, implementing, and maintaining storage solutions for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The candidate will ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing storage systems within this mission-critical environment. This position is up to 50% on-site at the Austin Information Technology Center in Austin, Texas, United States. Core working hours are 8:00AM to 4:00PM CST.
Responsibilities:
* Design, deploy, and manage scalable storage infrastructure aligned with VA objectives.
* Monitor, tune, and maintain storage performance, availability, and data integrity.
* Perform installation of storage devices, to include fiber and network switches.
* Diagnose and resolve complex storage-related issues.
* Collaborate with IT teams to integrate storage systems into broader network environments.
* Develop and maintain operational documentation and standard operating procedures.
* Implement and manage data backup and recovery strategies to safeguard critical information and minimize downtime.
Qualifications:
Required Skills and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology with 12+ years of experience or commensurate experience
* Expertise in Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS).
* Knowledge of cloud storage solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
* Ability to troubleshoot storage performance issues.
* Must be physically able to lift 35 plus lbs of equipment.
* Understanding of fiber channel, iSCSI, and other storage networking protocols.
* Ability to fine-tune storage environments for efficiency.
* Experience with technologies like VMware vSAN, or Hyper-V.
* Familiarity with AWS S3, or Azure Blob Storage.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
* Proven experience in designing and implementing architecture to support scalable and efficient system development.
* Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools.
