Overview: Under direction, to provide support and assistance to physicians and nurses in the care and treatment of patients with musculoskeletal problems. Applies and removes casts, braces, splints, staples, sutures and dressings. Ensures equipment and supplies are readily available, safe and clean. Responsibilities: PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions) * Assists physicians with care and treatment of orthopedic patients including casting, bracing and application of traction. * Applies and removes casts, braces, splints, staples, sutures and dressings. * Assists physicians with orthodepic devices. * Assists physicians with the proper fitting, application and adjustment of pre-op braces, crutches, walkers and other soft goods, based on patient's physical structure. * Assists physicians with various orthopedic procedures, including minor surgical procedures, wound care, aspirations, and fracture reductions. * Provides instruction to patients in the proper use and care of casts, traction apparatuses, and orthopedic appliances. * Take vital signs and prepares for injections. * Assists patients with treatment and care. * Orders x-rays as needed. * Maintains a neat, clean and well-stocked cast room. * Orders special supplies as needed. Qualifications: JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * Knowledge of health care and medical procedures, including terminology. * Ability to use personal protective equipment and respond to emergency situations. * Working knowledge of Universal Precautions, in handling blood and body fluids. * Ability and willingness to be empathetic, tactful, and courteous. * Ability to work effectively independently and with other team members. * Safe handling of cleaning supplies and other chemicals. * Good communication and organizational skills. * Certificate in orthopedic technician training from an accredited technical school or community college preferred. EDUCATION * High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required * 1 Healthcare/Medical � Orthopedics Preferred STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR Meets the Standards of Behavior as outlined in Personnel Policy and Procedure #1, Employee Relations Code.
