				Overview:

Assists the Practice Manager in the management of the clinical staff in Opthalmology and Optometry while acting as a liaison between physicians and staff.

Position Reports To: Practice Manager

Responsibilities:

* Actively involved in departmental hiring; provides training and supervises Ophthalmology department personnel.
* Assigns and updates daily staffing calendar for the Ophthalmology/Optometry department according to clinic needs, including approving time off requests per organization protocol.
* Evaluates employee performance and recommends merit increases, promotions and disciplinary actions.
* Communicates and distributes department information or changes to staff.
* Responds to staff questions and/or problems and assists in conflict resolution.
* Provides department updates for management team as needed or upon request.
* Observes staff daily in their various roles and fills in periodically to maintain technical knowledge and skills.
* Assists in documenting workflows.
* Reviews and approves timecards using API.
* Utilizes various reports to meet established department goals and benchmarks.
* Maintains knowledge of and complies with department policies, procedures and protocols.
* Attends required meetings and trainings as requested.
* Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

* Nationally Certified Ophthalmic Tech; either a COA or COT.
* High School Diploma or GED.
* 4 years relevant experience as an Ophthalmic Technician with supervisory or related administrative responsibilities OR a combination of technician and supervisory experience with a minimum of 3 years' as an Ophthalmic Technician.
* Knowledgeable in the principles and skills needed to provide patient care and treatment.
* Knowledgeable in routine, emergent, and follow up examination standards, diagnostic testing, diagnostic equipment, in office procedures, surgical-related procedures, and scheduling.
* Ability to work independently and show initiative in proceeding with necessary tasks without supervision.

 Desired:

* Prior pertinent management experience with Ophthalmic background.
* Bachelor's degree.
