Overview:
Position Overview:The OB Tech role combines CNA, PCL, and Scrub Tech duties, functioning as a vital member of the Patient Care Team to provide safe, comprehensive care to the childbearing woman and beyond (ages 10-80).
This position is essential to the operations of our LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) unit, where all staff are trained to support:
* Labor & Delivery
* Postpartum
* OB/GYN Triage
* Lactation Support
* Operating Room (C-sections and gynecological cases)
* PACU
* Level II Nursery
* Gynecological Surgical Cases
Women's Health CNA experience and Surgical Scrub training are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
* Take and record vital signs; monitor physical and emotional changes.
* Assist with patient admissions (physical, EPIC documentation, and registration).
* Provide activities of daily living support.
* Assist physicians during vaginal deliveries and sterile procedures, including:
* Cesarean Sections
* Cervical Cerclage
* Dilation & Curettage (D&C)
* Hysterectomy
* Epidurals
* Circumcisions
* Prepare and scrub for vaginal deliveries and OR procedures.
* Assist with case cleanup and turnover in Labor & Delivery OR suite.
* Perform technical tasks:
* Blood draws
* Accu-checks
* Basic respiratory therapy
* Urinary catheterizations
* Application of fetal monitors
* Complete birth certificate documentation using the State Vital Records Program.
* Manage patient registration, admission, and discharge workflows.
* Maintain EPIC documentation for continuity of care.
* Prepare for scheduled operations: arrange sterile set-up of instrument tables.
* Assist surgeons intraoperatively by:
* Passing instruments and supplies
* Holding retractors
* Assisting in exposure and procedural support
* Maintain OR cleanliness and equipment storage.
* Support lactation consultants and nursing staff with newborn care and patient education.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED
* Active Certified Nursing Assistant Certification
* BLS/CPR - required at hire, renewed every 2 years.
* NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required at hire or before completion of orientation; renewed every 2 years.
* Orientation Duration:
* 6-12 weeks depending on prior L&D and scrub experience.
* Mandatory Call Shifts:
* Rotating call shifts are required every 6-week schedule.
Preferred Qualifications
* Surgical Scrub Tech Certification -
* Candidates without certification must complete the OSF 12-week Scrub Training Program during orientation.
