Overview:
Schedule: Day Shift, Monday-Friday, No Weekends or Holidays
FTE: 1.0 (40/hrs per week), Exempt
Minimum Pay Rate: $34/hr
*Neurology experience a plus but not required.
Keto Clinic:
Within this subspecialty clinic, the dietary therapy program provides medical treatment for children with difficult to control epilepsy. Commonly referred to as the ketogenic diet, providing children with a high fat and low carbohydrate diet can significantly improve seizure control. In 50-60% of children, there is a 50% reduction in seizures and in 10-20% of children there is more than a 90% reduction in seizures. This therapy requires multiple clinic visits, regular communication with families, fine tuning the diet to the individual child, and vitamin/mineral supplementation. Implementation of this diet requires a team approach with registered dietitians, nursing support and physician oversight.
The dietary therapy program has grown over the past year with ~13% increase in patient volumes with plans to continue growing the program. To sustain this growth further additional nurse clinician is a necessity to provide high quality, safe care for this patient population.
The Keto clinic operates at a minimum of twice a month with two neurology providers plus a total of 8-12 hours per week of RD support.
Movement Disorders:
The patients are children with movement disorders associated with cerebral palsy, Tourette syndrome, and rare neurogenetic conditions. The nurse will be a member of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating with a movement disorders neurologist and other providers (including physicians, therapists, psychologists, genetic counselors) to coordinate care in varied clinical settings.
Provides nursing care and care coordination services for pediatric patients and their families. Fosters effective communication among health care professionals who provide nursing care to children with altered health states. Develops and implements educational programs for patients, parents and families, hospital staff, and community health personnel. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Maintains a current Ohio Nursing License.
Responsibilities:
Epilepsy Clinic: see patients with provider; provide patient education
Pre-surgical: Schedule and follow EMU admission; Coordinate consults; Maintain communication with family; Obtain insurance authorization; Schedule tests/procedures
Planning: Prep and gather medical data for Epilepsy surgery conference; Maintain communciation with family
Surgical: Visit family daily during admission
Post-surgical: Schedule follow-up appointments; provide patient education; maintain communication with family
Qualifications:
Education Requirement: BSN
Licensure Requirement: Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio.
Experience: Clinical skill and knowledge in the nursing care of children including normal growth and development and/or clinical expertise in specialized area required. At least 3 years of nursing experience is preferred.
