The Music Therapist - Pediatric Pain & Palliative Care functions within the Child Life Department and Audrey Hepburn Children's House offering the arts as a therapeutic modality for pediatric patients and their family members on an inpatient or an outpatient basis.

Responsibilities:

A day in the life of a Music Therapist - Pediatric Pain & Palliative Care at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

* Collaborates with Child Life Program.
* Provides creative arts therapy for both individuals and groups of children. 
* Develops and implements a creative arts therapy program.
* Evaluates creative arts therapy program on a regular basis. 
* Provides therapeutic support for pediatric patients during identified stress points such as medical distress, end of life. 
* Collaborates with other staff by sharing information regarding planning of treatment and follow-up. 
* Procures creative arts supplies. 
* Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) This process includes communicating with the patient, parent and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.). 
* Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies. AHCH Specific Job Functions (List in order of importance): 
* Provides a comprehensive assessment of patient'ss psychosocial needs and develops treatment plans and treatment plan reviews based on findings and according to department policy; provides effective treatment to patients, whether assessment or therapy, and shares and interprets information to staff, families, and/or other approved agencies. 
* Completes written reports in a timely fashion as required.

Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

* Appropriate education in creative arts therapy from an accredited creative arts therapy program.

 Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 

* Master's degree.

 Licenses and Certifications Required: 

* Creative Arts Therapy certification by the appropriate creative arts accrediting board within 18 months from date of hire.
