				Overview:

The Municipal Inspector is responsible for inspecting construction projects within the city to ensure compliance with municipal codes, ordinances, and specifications. This position places a strong emphasis on transportation infrastructure, requiring direct experience with TXDOT standards, procedures, and documentation.

Responsibilities:

* Inspect public infrastructure projects including roads, bridges, sidewalks, storm drains, water/sewer lines, and traffic control devices.
* Ensure all work meets TXDOT and city specifications, design plans, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
* Perform daily site visits to monitor construction progress, materials, methods, and quality of work.
* Review and interpret civil engineering plans, drawings, and specifications.
* Maintain accurate and detailed inspection reports, including photos, measurements, and notes.
* Assist in preparing punch lists and coordinating project closeouts.
* Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, utility providers, and the public.
* Serve as a liaison between city departments and TXDOT during joint projects or state-funded construction.
* Monitor compliance with erosion control, traffic control, and safety practices.
* Participate in pre-construction meetings and project walkthroughs.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

* High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in construction technology, engineering, or related field preferred.
* Minimum 3-5 years of experience in civil construction inspection, with at least 2 years working directly on TXDOT projects.
* Knowledge of TXDOT construction specifications, standard sheets, testing procedures, and documentation requirements.
* Experience with construction logs, pay apps and RFI's.

Certifications (preferred or required):

* Certified Inspector through TXDOT or equivalent agency.
* OSHA 10/30 Certification.
* TCEQ certifications (as needed for water/wastewater projects).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Strong knowledge of municipal and TXDOT construction standards and specifications.
* Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, and construction schedules.
* Skilled in conflict resolution, problem-solving, and negotiation with contractors and consultants.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and inspection/reporting software
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
