				Overview:

Medical Laboratory Technician

Grundy County Memorial Hospital

Shift: Full Time - 36 Hours per Week - Weekend Package - 6A-6PM Friday-Sunday or Full Time - 36 Hours per Week - Weekend Package - Every 5th Saturday and Sunday off. 

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), under the direction of the Laboratory Team Leader, is responsible for collecting, performing and analyzing laboratory tests in hematology, blood bank, special chemistry, chemistry, arterial blood gases, serology and microbiology to provide information for diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Responsibilities:

* Responsible for specimen collection, processing, test performance, and for reporting test results.
* Performs all moderate complexity tests that are offered in this laboratory and has a degree of skill commensurate with the individuals' education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
* Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen procurement, handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
* Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
* Adheres to the laboratory quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
* Follows the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
* Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and either corrects the problem or immediately notifies laboratory leadership.
* Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

Qualifications:

Required: 

* Associate's degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
* Previous experience in a clinical laboratory
* Certification (or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent 
* Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as outlined per policy, or obtain certification within three months from hire date 
* Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
* Must be able to read, write, comprehend and speak fluent English

* Must possess basic computer skills and knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser

Preferred:

* Bachelor's degree in related field.
* Proficiency with laboratory information systems and electronic health records.
