What to Expect from the MA-T Role
This paid apprenticeship offers a direct pathway into a CMA career-no previous MA experience required. Over the course of 7-8 months, you'll receive:

* On-the-job clinical training through rotations

* Classroom instruction and continuing education

* Four hours of paid study time each week

* Support and mentorship from experienced professionals

Participants will complete rotations at St. Luke's clinics in the Baker City area, so transportation and schedule flexibility are essential.

Upon successful completion of the program, you'll be eligible to sit for a national certification exam and transition into a full-time CMA role at St. Luke's. Individuals accepted into the MA-T program are hired as full-time employees and are expected to stay with St. Luke's in a CMA role for at least one year post-certification.
Minimum Qualifications
Education

* High School Diploma or equivalent

Certification

* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute

Experience

* At least six (6) months of healthcare experience (e.g., CNA, EMT, phlebotomy, dental assisting, patient registration, or similar)

* Direct patient care experience preferred

Responsibilities:

The Medical Assistant Apprentice is responsible for assisting licensed independent providers with patient care. Works under close supervision and clearly defined policies and procedures.

-Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts. 
-Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Sterilizes, cleans, and performs checks on medical equipment. 
-Prepares patients for examination. 
-Provides technical, clinical, and clerical support to licensed independent provider. 
-Performs medical procedures within scope of roles and responsibilities. 
-Assists licensed independent provider in patient exams and office procedures. 
-Prepares basic laboratory tests on premises and prepares laboratory specimens. 
-Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

* Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent 
* Experience: 6 months experience 
* Licenses/Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certified through American Safety and Health Institute, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross.
