				COMPANY PROFILE 
The Kodiak Area Native Association was formed in 1966 as a 501 (C)(3) non-profit corporation providing health and social services for the Alaska Natives of the Koniag region. The Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) service area includes the City of Kodiak and six Alaska Native villages: Akhiok, Karluk, Old Harbor, Ouzinkie, Port Lions, and Larsen Bay.  

Services provided by KANA include an Ambulatory Medical Care and Dental Care, Pharmacy, Contract Health, Community Health Aide Program, Substance Abuse Prevention, Intervention/Outreach, Social Services, non-clinical community Mental Health, and Youth Prevention Projects. Other services provided by the organization include Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program, Vocational Rehabilitation, Early Childhood programs, Education, Employment and Training programs, Infant Learning Program, a full service Fitness Center and Tribal Operations/Environmental Health.

POSITION SUMMARY
Consults with patients on matters concerning physical, mental, and spiritual health. Through training (traditional and contemporary) and experience, develops and implements culturally relevant strategies appropriate to the needs of the patient.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Creates, develops, and nurtures culturally appropriate interactions and connections with each other, patients, and the community.

Serves as a member of the patient's multidisciplinary treatment team to evaluate the immediate health needs and suggest and/or apply traditional treatment as indicated as an adjunct to care. 

Consult with appropriate treatment staff regarding patient's progress and needs.

Reviews with the patient the complete treatment history and suggest areas in which traditional healing practices and/or collaborative care are indicated. Focus will be holistic in nature with emphasis on prevention and health maintenance. These treatment strategies may involve a wide spectrum of services that will compliment, supplement, and enhance the patients existing treatment plan. 

Provides, at the request of patients or providers, culturally relevant consultations including, but not limited to:
* Translation and interpretive services.
* Patient education regarding treatment plans and/or medications.
* Patient status regarding the course of the treatment plan.
* The relationship of the treatment plan to the patient's traditional cultural practices and beliefs.

Participate in on-going review of patient satisfaction and quality related to culture activities provided through KANA. Maintains legible treatment records in a form required by KANA.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATED, LICENSEE, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements include: Graduate of an accredited post-secondary education school of massage therapy and a current certification as a massage therapist from a national certification board or a national certification program. Two years of relevant work experience is preferred. Must be able to travel to remote communities by small plane.
Employee should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the KANA members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians. Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of KANA: working together with the Native community to provide the best services with staff who value the family and family wellness as the heart of the Native community.
* Advanced level of knowledge regarding the culture and traditional practices of Alaska Natives/ American Indians.
* Knowledge of contemporary health practices and associated procedures
