Overview: GDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a Machine Learning (ML) Vision Engineer to support a hybrid-remote engagement with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) in Middletown, PA. This role requires candidates to reside within the Continental United States and be available for quarterly onsite work at PTC facilities, with additional onsite support periods as needed. The position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact, real-time OCR and computer vision solutions within a collaborative, multi-team technical environment. Responsibilities: * Design, implement, and optimize Machine Learning-based computer vision components, including object detection, image classification, OCR pipelines, and image quality classifiers. * Develop robust, production-ready Python code using strong Object-Oriented Design principles. * Implement data-driven training, evaluation, and feedback loops for OCR engines and image classifiers. * Optimize model performance to meet near real-time transaction processing requirements. * Collaborate with the system architect to integrate ML components into a distributed, message-driven architecture. * Participate in system-level design discussions to ensure scalability, maintainability, and adaptability. * Work closely with database, API, and DevOps teams to support deployment, testing, and operational workflows. * Build full frameworks and production systems rather than proof-of-concept notebooks. * Fully document technical and functional designs, test plans, scripts, impact analyses, lessons learned, and best practices per PTC standards. * Maintain productive working relationships with technical teams, business owners, vendors, and project sponsors. * Lead and participate in project team activities for enterprise system work efforts. * Work independently to complete assigned tasks and duties. * Follow all PTC standards, policies, and procedures. * Use various software and technology tools to perform job duties. * Perform other related duties as assigned by the PTC. Qualifications: * Strong professional Python experience, clearly demonstrated in the resume. * Solid background in software engineering, including OOP, design patterns, clean code practices, and testable architectures. * Hands-on experience with image processing and computer vision frameworks such as OpenCV or Pillow. * Practical experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. * OCR-related experience (e.g., Tesseract, PaddleOCR, EasyOCR, or custom OCR models). * Familiarity with object detection frameworks such as YOLO, Faster R-CNN, or SSD. * Knowledge of image classification, feature extraction, and evaluation metrics for vision tasks. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Microsoft ADO Testing Module.
