The Position: The Loss Control Associate, is responsible for assisting the Loss Control and Claims & Litigations Manager in overseeing the company's risk management and loss prevention/mitigation programs. Specific areas of focus include property and tenant liability claim management, coordination between insurance companies, clients and RPM personnel, assisting with 3rd party and employee related injury investigations, and safety audits. In conjunction with the Director of Risk and Safety, this role is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of loss control strategies to minimize risk and enhance safety across the organization. The Loss Control Associate plays a crucial role in identifying potential hazards, conducting risk assessments, and fostering a culture of safety.
Responsibilities:
* Assist in risk assessments and audits of operations to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement
* Facilitate implementation of loss control programs and initiatives to mitigate risks associated with property, liability, tenant claims, and operational safety
* Assist with Master Insurance Program property and tenant liability claims management, ensuring timely and effective investigation, resolution, and communication with relevant parties
* Serve as a liaison for RPM and partner with all RPM provider partners to ensure efficient handling of all claims. Build, maintain and manage relationships with claims adjusters, insurers, outside legal counsel and other claims related parties. Partner with TPA and/or claims adjusters to facilitate the claims process through to closure
* Facilitate the delivery of training programs for employees on best practices in safety and risk management, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
* Lead investigations of incidents and accidents, analyzing root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence
* Work closely with various departments, including operations and compliance, to ensure alignment on safety protocols and risk management strategies
* Prepare detailed reports on loss control activities, claims trends, and metrics, highlighting areas for improvement and strategic initiatives
* Stay informed on industry best practices and emerging trends in loss control and claims management, incorporating new strategies to enhance safety and risk management efforts
* Assist in supporting company safety programs, and innovating policies, programs and processes to improve safety performance and culture
* In conjunction with loss control manager, identify risks, develop and implement mitigation strategies and safety programs to control losses arising from fire, water, liability, life safety and worker exposures
* Facilitate implementation of Emergency Operations Procedures and Severe Weather protocols including monitoring severe weather patterns and alerting stakeholders of catastrophic weather conditions
* Manage internal and external communications related to loss prevention or incidents
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
* High School Diploma or equivalent
* Three years of experience in loss control, workplace safety, risk management or insurance claims administration
* Multifamily or legal experience preferred
* Knowledge of insurance, claims processes, and risk assessment methodologies
* Knowledge of renter's insurance, general liability, discrimination, and property events that might warrant an insurance company to be notified of a potential claim
* Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, NFPA, EPA, and other workplace safety laws and regulations
* Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Yardi
* Skilled in developing and implementing risk management frameworks and policies
* Skilled in leadership and team management, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization
* Skilled in using data to monitor safety trends, create reports, and make data-driven recommendations
* Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
* Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision-making skills
Physical Requirements:
* May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
* Must be able to read documents, computer screens and data
* Must be able to hear and understand verbal communications in person and over the phone or computer
* May occasionally be required to lift or carry items such as files or office supplies weighing up to 15 pounds
* Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse and other office equipment
Work Environment:
* This is a hybrid role, requiring the associate to work in one of our corporate or regional offices 4 days per week
* The office is an open setting which may include bright lights, constant noises and distractions
