Overview:
The Emergency Department Administrative Assistant plays a vital role in managing communications and ensuring smooth patient flow within the ED. This includes close collaboration with ED nursing and physician leadership to optimize throughput for all patients. As the primary point of contact for the ED, the Administrative Assistant must be adept at handling numerous phone calls effectively, even in high-pressure situations.

Responsibilities:
* Answering and directing a large number of phone calls to the Emergency Department, including physician and professional calls regarding transfers, admissions, and consultations, answering patient emergency call systems, and activating emergency notification systems for the entire facility.
* Facilitate transfers of patients to and from outside facilities, including printing/copying/scanning patient documents.
* Facilitate flow by placing admissions within the bed placement system.
* Scan patient charges and maintain and order department supplies, office and form supplies, nourishment, etc. Ordering specialty supplies for the trauma department and physicians.
* Maintain department statistics for quality, safety, and regulatory needs.
* Scan patient documents into the electronic medical record. Provide Health Information Management services after hours for emergency department patients.
* Customer services/interdepartmental relations for patients, outside facilities, inter-hospital departments, physicians, pharmacy, lab, and others as needed.
* Maintenance of service and work order needs for the ED.
* Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
* High School Diploma/GED Required
* One year of work experience as a Unit Coordinator, or equivalent
* Strong clerical skills are needed for this role
* Need to understand basic medical terminology
