				Overview:

POSITION SUMMARY:

In addition to the job duties as an ethicist, a Lead Ethicist, working in close partnership with Ethics management, yet largely on their own at local operating units, will ensure all ethics activities are performed and serve as a resource person for Mission Partners in resolving ethics concerns. The Lead identifies, coordinates, and evaluates ethics consultation, policy integration, and education needs for their location. In their designated locations, the lead ethicist implements the ethics strategies and team goals, as determined alongside the center for excellence in ethics. Serves as principal ethics consultant for local committees. Participates in the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of facility ethics educational programs beyond the ethics committees. In collaboration with the center for excellence in ethics, identifies ethics needs locally, which contributes to the overall ethics strategy and agenda.

**On site work at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford with monthly visits to Dixon and Ottawa.**

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Master's degree in healthcare ethics, bioethics, theology, theological ethics, philosophical ethics, law or a field related to healthcare ethics.

Experience: 1 year of experience in healthcare or ethics.

* A Catholic, who accepts and supports the moral teachings of the Catholic Church.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
* Excellent teaching, communication and mediation skills, both in personal interaction and group settings.
* Can facilitate clinical discussions to a positive cooperative result with clinical staff and patients and their surrogates and family members on ethics issues.
* Engages personal interactions with openness and compassion appropriate in the Catholic healthcare ministry.
* Relates respectfully and well with persons. Maintains confidentiality and trust necessary for professional interaction.
* Demonstrated understanding and ability to apply, as well as competently teach, the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services as well as other key source texts relative to the Catholic Healthcare Ministry. 
* Possesses competency and respectfulness regarding the needs of others relative to cultures, traditions, and religious beliefs and practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Doctorate in theological ethics, philosophical ethics, bioethics, or healthcare ethics. Experience: 2 years in healthcare ethics Licensure/ Certification: Healthcare Ethics Consultant-Certified (HEC-C)
