Overview: In addition to assisting leaders with administrative and regulatory functions, the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Lead performs diagnostic and therapeutic sonographic procedures under the direction of a Radiologist. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Lead provides compassionate direct patient care with an emphasis on maintaining organizational values and standards of behavior. Sonography is operator-dependent, and its optimal performance requires a highly skilled and well-educated individual who can continuously integrate known clinical information with ultrasound image content and related physiologic data to tailor the examination to ensure that it is comprehensive and accurate. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Lead is required to participate in an on-call rotation outside of business hours based on department needs and must be able to work some weekends and holidays. Responsibilities: * Provides leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility. * Completes a variety of high quality, patient-centered ultrasound procedures on all age ranges (neonatal - elderly) and in varying locations throughout the hospital, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care. * Performs quality control (QC) procedures in compliance with manufacturer and regulatory requirements independently, ensuring proper functioning of equipment and image quality. * Troubleshoots equipment issues & errors and reports safety concerns & malfunctions promptly. * Prepares and cleans equipment to meet disinfection and high-level disinfection standards. * Demonstrates knowledge of multiple computer systems and applications (HIS, RIS, PACS and modality-specific), including documentation and review of patient history as applicable. * Assists in the training and supervision of students. * Maintains an adequate level of personal productivity and creates staffing schedules that maximize department productivity. * Teaches and mentors staff in assigned technical area providing immediate feedback; orients new team members; and assists leaders on performance evaluations to ensure a smooth functioning, high quality operation. * Responsible for ordering and utilizing supplies in a cost-effective manner. * Reviews and approves team member timekeeping. Qualifications: Education: * CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Vascular Technology required. * Completion of a two-year or more accredited health science program (i.e. Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing, etc.) plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography required. * Associate degree or Bachelor's degree from a CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography program preferred. * Maintains active registry status. Experience: * Successful completion of clinical requirements of an accredited program. * Direct patient health care experience preferred. * 2 years radiology experience in a hospital or clinic required. * 1 year supervisory experience preferred. License(s)/Certification(s): * Registered Medical Diagnostic Sonographer. Registered Sonographer in two additional specialities: Abdomen, Breast, MSK, OB/GYN, Pediatric or RVT required. * Current BCLS certification. * Mandatory Reporter.
