				Overview:

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Lead Clinical Lab Scientist assists management in overseeing and directing work of technical personnel engaged in performing various routine and complex laboratory tests. In doing so, establishes work priorities, organizes and assigns work to medical laboratory employees. Performs more complex and/or non-routine testing procedures and regularly checks validity and accuracy of test results obtained by laboratory personnel. Performs the duties of lab technical personnel on a regular basis. Independent judgment and professional education and certification are required.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:

* Associate degree in medical laboratory technology, medical laboratory science, or clinical laboratory science AND 4 years' Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) laboratory training or experience OR Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science, or medical technology AND 2 years' CLIA laboratory training or experience. 
* Alternative degrees may be considered for applicants who meet requirements in 42 CFR 493.1411 and 42 CFR 493.1461

Licensure/ Certification:

* If highest level of education is associate's degree: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician 

Other Skills/ Knowledge:

* Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and communicate with patients and other health care professionals and to lead day to day activities of the laboratory section. 
* High level of professionalism and skillful performance in stressful situations. 
* Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
* Advanced quantitative analysis skills necessary to interpret test results, analyze lab data, and identify trends or anomalies in patient results. 
* Strong organizational and time management skills.
* Moderate proficiency with Microsoft applications and solid computer skills. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology 

Licensure/ Certification:

* American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
