The Laboratory Technician Lead (Foreign Nationals) overseas clinical diagnostics and healthcare services at a Level 2+ medical facility. This position is responsible for the oversight of a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures - from drawing blood samples and processing specimens to conducting routine diagnostic analyses - while ensuring accuracy, sample integrity, and strict laboratory safety. The Lab Technician Lead operates under high standards of care, enforcing established protocols and federal guidelines (e.g., CLIA) as well as infection control measures to deliver reliable results that aid in patient care. The role requires technical expertise in clinical laboratory techniques, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work in a high-pressure, austere environment as part of an expeditionary medical team.

Responsibilities:

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

* Oversees specimen collection (venipuncture/phlebotomy) and handling of specimens, ensuring positive patient identification and sample integrity (proper labeling and chain-of-custody for samples).

* Organizes a broad range of laboratory tests and analyses (e.g., hematology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology) and specialized occupational health tests as needed (such as urine drug screens, pulmonary function, vision, and hearing tests).

* Accurately document and report test results to physicians or other healthcare providers, maintaining detailed records and upholding patient confidentiality per privacy regulations.

* Ensures Lab Technicians calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment; perform routine quality control and preventative maintenance to ensure all devices produce reliable, accurate results.

* Enforces all laboratory protocols, safety procedures, and regulatory guidelines, including proper use of PPE and biohazard containment, to prevent contamination and ensure a safe working environment.

* Identifies and investigates any irregularities or discrepancies in test results, troubleshoots equipment or procedural issues, and immediately notifies medical staff of critical values or lab findings.

* Collaborates with doctors, nurses, and the broader medical team to support diagnosis and treatment by providing timely lab results and expert insight into test methodologies.

* Work effectively in a high-pressure, overseas environment - remaining flexible and responsive to emergency situations or shifting priorities in a military/contracting medical setting.

Qualifications:

* Education: Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist program (Associate's degree or equivalent in laboratory science).

* Certification:

* Foreign Nationals: relevant national certification or licensure in medical laboratory science.

* 3+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting performing diagnostic testing, with demonstrable skill in performing accurate tests and proper specimen handling.
* Proficient in phlebotomy and specimen processing techniques; able to collect blood and other samples safely and accurately.

* Strong knowledge of laboratory safety standards (e.g., OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards) and quality control procedures to ensure test accuracy and equipment reliability.

* Attention to detail and organizational skills, with ability to multitask and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

* Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, for reporting results and coordinating with clinical staff.

* Willingness and ability to live and work in a high-risk, austere environment for extended periods, following all security and medical protocols.

* PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

* Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, or related field (preferred, in addition to required MLT program).

* Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) certification (ASCP or equivalent) highly desirable for U.S. candidates; International equivalents for Foreign candidates.
* Prior experience in expeditionary, military/contractor, or resource-limited healthcare settings, especially in conflict/post-conflict regions.

* Training or experience in handling infectious disease specimens or involvement in infection control programs in the laboratory context.

* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (preferred for medical staff to respond to on-site emergencies).

* Certification or formal training in chain-of-custody procedures for forensic/toxicology drug screening (e.g., urine drug screening certification).

* Working Conditions:

* Must be capable of working in an extreme weather condition with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

* Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, dusty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months).

* Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

* Physical Requirements:

* Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

* Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

* Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

* Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
