Overview: Laboratory Section Leader Full Time; 6:00am-2:30pm; FTE 1.0 Location: Rock Island, IL The phlebotomist III plays an important role in the lab. The phlebotomist III is primarily training others to accurately obtain blood samples through venipuncture and capillary collection with minimum patient discomfort and safe practices for patients of all ages. They are considered the lead resource for advanced troubleshooting of specimen collection. Responsible for limited specimen processing and registration. Achieves productivity standards and ensures specimen integrity by adhering to the laboratory procedures. Committed to improving the Patient experience through our values. Responsibilities: Clinical Excellence * Achieves advanced understanding of lab tests to answer patient questions in an easy-to-understand way. * Uses technical knowledge and ability to resolve issues with patient orders and specimen collections. * Greets everyone with a pleasant and professional manner, using patient experience best practice guidelines (example: AIDET) * Identifies patients and samples using two patient identifiers, always labeling samples in the presence of the patient. * Performs a variety of blood draws and specimen collections, including but not limited to venous, capillary blood and newborn heel sticks. * Assists with sample receiving and delivery of specimens to testing areas while ensuring sample stability through proper handling. * Demonstrates advanced knowledge and understanding of computer programs for patient identification, order, and sample tracking. * Limited specimen processing and patient registration * May be required to float to multiple locations and settings. Leading and Training * Assists with and often leads providing orientation to all employees and students. * Administers training and coaching to staff under direction of the Supervisor. * Develops, maintains, and updates training and competency programs as necessary to ensure quality and to maintain accreditation. * Uses technical knowledge and ability to manage and resolve issues related to patient orders and specimen collection. * Independently exercises judgment in determining work priority and at times directs work for others. Interacts with nursing units and clients to ascertain critical priorities, verify discrepancies and problem solve. * Assists with scheduling and supply ordering needs. Qualifications: Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent Experience: One to two years of Hospital Phlebotomy experience. Licenses/Certifications: ASCP certified or equivalent. If not certified, has 6 months to brecome certified. Valid Driver's License *Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, skills, internal equity, and other business needs.
