Overview:
Laboratory analysts set up test equipment in the lab to complete specific procedures.
Responsibilities:
* Performs receiving, tracking, analyzing, reporting and disposing of samples.
* Performs a variety of chemical and biological tests and associated laboratory activities; prepare chemical reagents and solutions; sanitize tools and equipment as necessary for microbial testing; clean, organize and maintain the laboratory work spaces and equipment.
* Calibrate laboratory instruments in accordance with applicable policies and manual.
* Participate in all laboratory activities in an efficient and safe manner; all work shall be executed in conformance with the Safety Policy.
* Assists in maintaining laboratory equipment and observe its performance by tracking quality standards, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, operating in compliance with equipment best practices and written procedures.
* Assists in maintaining laboratory supplies and inventory; including ordering of needed supplies, verifying receipt and condition upon receipt and logging supplies in appropriate logbooks.
* Maintains quality results by interpreting and checking routine test results; participating in internal and external audits; adhering to the Quality Assurance Manual; consulting with the Manger; participating in proficiency surveys and tests; checking data, including quality control and quality assurance data.
* Resolves technical problems and consults with the Manager
* Perform administrative duties as necessary; reporting, filing, completes various forms and reports as needed; maintains data tracking spreadsheets as directed.
* Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
* Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
* High School Diploma/GED. One year experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
* Bachelor's degree in chemistry, physical science, or chemical engineering
Experience
* Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a laboratory setting.
* Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word etc. )
* Knowledge in sample preprocess, complex preparation, data review, reporting, and instrument maintenance.
* Knowledge and competence in the protocols for sample collection, preservation, and analyses for chemical and microbiological parameters.
* Experience in conducting the analytical testing and data reporting required for Fit for Human Consumption (FFHC) water systems utilizing EPA-approved methodology for drinking water analyses.
Skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication in English
* Adheres to safety and compliance policies and procedures.
Other Requirements
* A normal work week is 48 hours (5 days per week). Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires
* May be required to work weekends and holidays, early and or late shifts
* Training required under NAVFAC MO-213, shall be completed within 180 days of arrival at NSGB
* Required to complete yearly training in order to keep personnel updated with the local and Federal environmental regulations
