Responsible For The Processing, Mailing And Result Reporting Of Specimens Sent To Outside Reference Labs And The Coordination Of Patient Specimens For The Chemistry, Special Chemistry And Serology Laboratories. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Responsibilities: Performs a variety of data entry, verification of specimens, and other related computer functions including generation and distribution of specimen draft reports with the assistance of the Histology lab staff . 0 1. Generates labels and work list for the day. Set up, clean, and prepare all work areas including the disposal and storage of specimens. 0 2. Prepares cassettes for microtomy. Cleans/maintains processing/staining machines. Gross set-up (match containers with requisition & place label on containers) 0 3. Evaluate specimens for acceptability, notifies physician/office if unacceptable (complete ISF form). Check the CRC fridge for specimens. 0 4. Accessions and orders Histology specimens in the LIS. Obtains missing information necessary to complete accessioning of the specimen (i.e., patient?s name, date of birth, source of specimen, or any pertinent patient information). 0 5. 0 6. Maintains temperature charts (i.e. water bath, cryostat, processors, frozen stain set-up, etc.) 0 7. Files all blocks and slides that are signed out. Pulls/files archive slides and blocks when required. 0 8. Handles the receipt and routing of Histology specimens. Performs tasks and procedures under general supervision to assist other technicians, technologists, Pathologist?s Assistant and/or Pathologist; to include but not limited to: specimen collection, processing, staining, disposal of specimens, and requisition/slide filing. 0 9. Strictly follows hospital regulatory guidelines in carrying out the duties of the position and provides general support to maintain laboratory records and supplies. 0 10. Meets performance expectations for Customer service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review. 0 11. 0 12. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit Qualifications: EDUCATION High school graduate or equivalent required, AS degree or equivalent preferred. EXPERIENCE 1 yr. experience in laboratory preferred. Familiarity with general laboratory procedures (e.g. specimen handling) is preferred. SPECIAL SKILLS: Must be able to follow directions accurately and pay attention to detail. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of laboratory and pathology procedures is preferred. ACCOUNTABILITY Department orientation to become familiar with procedures and policies.
