Overview: GovCIO is seeking a Journeyman System Administrator to join our team, supporting a critical program with the U.S. Coast Guard. This position is primarily onsite in the Kearneysville, WV area, with the possibility of occasional remote work based on operational needs and management approval. This is a Front End Nights Shift position, working 1845-0700, Sunday-Tuesday with rotating Wednesdays, in alignment with 24/7 operational requirements. Responsibilities: The System Administrator will be a key member of the Information Technology Operations Center (ITOC), a 24/7 facility dedicated to ensuring seamless operation and robust security of critical IT infrastructure. This role involves managing, maintaining, and optimizing network systems to support continuous operations and mission-critical activities. * Manage, maintain, and optimize network systems within a demanding 24/7 operational environment to ensure high availability and security of critical IT infrastructure. * Configure and manage a variety of network devices, including routers and switches. * Utilize advanced network monitoring and analysis tools such as Wireshark and SolarWinds to proactively monitor performance, identify potential issues, and ensure rapid resolution. * Implement and enforce stringent network security protocols and industry best practices to protect sensitive data and systems. * Conduct in-depth troubleshooting for complex network issues related to TCP/IP protocols, VLAN management, and routing/switching protocols (BGP, OSPF). * Collaborate effectively with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of network services and overall operational efficiency. * Be available for shift work as required by the 24/7 operational needs of the ITOC Qualifications: High School with 6 - 9 years (or commensurate experience) Required Skills and Experience * Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA Security). * Proficiency configuring and managing network devices such as routers and switches. * Strong foundational understanding of TCP/IP, VLAN management, and essential routing/switching protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF). * Hands-on experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark and SolarWinds. * Solid understanding of network security protocols and best practices. * Ability to succeed in a demanding 24/7 operational environment, including availability for shift work. * Strong communication and teamwork skills. * Clearance Required: Must be clearable up to an active Secret clearance. Preferred Skills and Experience * US Coast Guard experience is highly preferred. * Additional networking certifications such as Network+, CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent. * Experience maintaining enterprise networks and datacenter environments.
