Overview:
The OPAT Investigator will be part of a new team working to advance the goals of the Office of Police Accountability and Transparency (OPAT). OPAT was established in 2020 to provide a single point of entry for individuals with concerns or complaints related to the Boston Police Department and its officers and sworn personnel to be heard and responded to. The Investigator will work closely with the community and key stakeholders to ensure that investigations are completed in a timely and equitable manner. The position requires a high level of professionalism, diplomacy, patience, and confidentiality. The successful candidate needs to consistently communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing.
Responsibilities:
* Receives, investigates and manages a caseload of civilian complaints related to allegations of misconduct of the Boston Police Department.
* Coordinates and completes highly complex, difficult and sensitive investigations.
* Conduct investigations in a thorough and timely fashion, including appropriate discretion in management of confidential information.
* Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
* Advanced methods and techniques of administrative investigations including developing an investigative plan and writing an investigative report.
* Analyzes and interprets rules, regulations and policies.
* Researches and secures confidential and sensitive documentary evidence for cases, including but not limited to medical and police reports.
* Identifies, gathers, reviews, and analyzes information from a variety of sources technical and forensic reports regarding physical evidence.
* Performs related work as required.
Qualifications:
* Five (5+) years of relevant experience.
* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years of experience in civil rights or related field.
* Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to work as part of a team.
* Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
* Bilingual speaking preferred.
* Ability to maintain well-organized case files and other materials.
* Exercise confidentiality and discretion with highly sensitive information and demonstrate sound judgement
* Operate flexibility and ability to work long hours.
* Work under pressure and in high stress situations.
* Familiarity with state and local government operations and processes.
* Strong customer service skills.
* Strong time-management skills to handle multiple tasks according to stated timelines in a busy office.
* Multitask, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
* Ability to think strategically and proactively.
* Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Performs related duties as required.
* Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.
Boston Residency Required.
