Overview: The Pediatric Hospitalist Division at K.Hovnanian Children's Hospital is recruiting a full time Newborn Hospitalist to work in a fast paced dynamic care nursery setting experiencing a tremendous amount of growth! We are in need of an additional non-teaching attending hospitalist to complement a dynamic team of academic attending hospitalists and pediatric nurse practitioners in a collaborative team based approach. Responsibilities: * Primary Responsibility: Provide medical care to healthy newborns in the well newborn nursery with a key focus on ensuring the health and well-being of newborns, identifying and managing any issues that may arise, and providing education and support to families. High risk deliveries are attended by a NICU attending. This position does not include attending deliveries * Perform routine assessments and examinations of newborns in well newborn nursery * Provide evidence-based medical care and treatments to newborns including ordering labs and medications * Educate families on newborn care, breastfeeding, and other relevant topics * Collaborate with healthcare teams including NICU staff, teaching hospitalist service, nurses, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and equitable care. * Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance newborn care and outcomes * No delivery room attendance required * No special care nursery coverage required * Prioritize safe and efficient discharges by 11 am to facilitate smooth work-flow * Coordinate transfer to higher level of care (NICU/SCN) for sick newborns * Attend TeamSTEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety) daily morning huddles * Collaborate with other hospital departments in delivery of care to newborns, as appropriate * Supervise and collaborate with pediatric nurse practitioners Qualifications: * BC/BE in General Pediatrics (American Board of Pediatrics) * Experience in caring for newborns and working in a hospital setting * Excellent communication skills to work effectively with families and healthcare teams * BLS, NALS, PALS Certifications * Strong clinical judgement and decision making skills * Ability to provide empathetic and supportive care to families * Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary teams including nurse practitioners
