				Overview:

The IS Manager, Clinical Informatics, is responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of health information, electronic health records and communication systems with the primary goals of enhancing patient care quality and safety, improving individual and population health outcomes, enabling innovation and research, and strengthening the clinician-patient relationship. This position is also responsible for:

* Effective management of staff and budget,
* Project management related to hospital information systems and services,
* Customer relationships,
* Vendor contract negotiations and optimization of vendor performance and relationships,
* Identifying and implementing process improvements and opportunities to enhance efficiency,
* Participation in the annual planning and budgeting process

Responsibilities:

Management Responsibilities

* Effective and responsible management of Clinical Informatics staff, projects and budgets.
* Models the organizational values and all standards, guidelines, policies and procedures. Supports all initiatives to maintain standards and guidelines for privacy, protection and regulatory requirements.
* Recruits the best qualified job candidates. Ensures adequate training, development, and career-path opportunities for all team members.
* Determines appropriate staff assignments for tasks and projects and holds staff accountable. Communicates, distributes and monitors assigned projects.
* Develops, implements, and evaluates goals and objectives, including performance goals, priorities, performance against objectives and development plans with team members on a periodic basis. Completes timely and meaningful staff performance reviews. Mentors, coaches and develops the performance of team members as appropriate.
* Develops and delivers Information Services presentations to various hospital committees and administration as appropriate or requested for assigned area(s) or responsibility.
* Assists the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) with monitoring the work effort, performance, education, and training of Physician Informaticists. Provides feedback for performance appraisals.
* Responsible for working with the Director in the negotiation of key vendor contracts to ensure that hospital resources are appropriately leveraged for support, maintenance, and competitive pricing from vendors.
* Responsible to participate in and guide the management of all clinical information and communication systems in use, especially as related to our primary EHR platforms and associated systems.
* Assists with planning for short and long range goals for clinical information and communication systems, ensuring that they are consistent with the overall strategic mission, goals, plans and priorities with the guidance of Information Services leadership and key customers.

Specific Responsibilities of the Clinical Informatics Role

* Expertise in clinical care of patients, medical center operations, and Clinical Informatics are essential elements for success in this role.
* Responsible for planning, managing and evaluating the Clinical Informatics program.
* Serve as a role model for bridging the functions of clinical care and information technology within all clinical areas. Use clinical knowledge, informatics knowledge, practice experience, appreciation of research methods, critical thinking, and leadership skills to facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to promote quality care through the application of applied clinical informatics principles.
* Assist customers in problem identification and resolution. Guide processes within system capabilities to collect and share patient information, reduce redundancy and waste, and to standardize practice and documentation wherever possible.
* Support the primary goal of Clinical Informatics to enhance patient care quality and safety, improve individual and population health outcomes, enable innovation and research, and strengthen the clinician-patient relationship.
* Responsible for continuous performance improvement process through careful investigation designed to assess and improve outcomes. Responsible for managing process ownership of growth initiatives of the Information Services Manager Team as assigned.
* Actively participates in Problem Management initiatives to ensure the most efficient use of resources and the best possible service to our customers.
* Actively participates in Change Management initiatives to ensure all high impact changes are well documented and appropriately communicated to all relevant parties.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred in Clinical or Biomedical Informatics
* Minimum 3 years' experience in a management or leadership role
* Strong demonstrated experience and understanding of the tenets of clinical informatics
* Minimum two years progressive EHR implementation and enhancement experience in areas such as clinical data repositories, electronic medical records, clinical documentation, computerized order entry / results reporting, and physician access systems.
* Demonstrated ability to be self-directed with excellent organizational, analytical, writing, interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills required to interact effectively with all hospital staff, medical staff, and external contacts (i.e., vendors).
* Must be able to successfully work in a highly complex clinical systems environment.
* Experience with Epic product is preferred, training requirements of "Epic certification" preferred
* Must have the organizational ability to plan, prioritize, supervise, mentor, educate and coordinate clinical and technical personnel.
* Strong sense of individual accountability while being an excellent team player.
* Ability to modify work schedules and practices to meet defined management responsibilities.
