Job Overview:
As an HL7 Interface Engineer at St. Luke's Health System in Boise, ID, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting HL7 interfaces that facilitate the exchange of healthcare information between systems. You will work closely with healthcare providers, IT teams, and software vendors to ensure data interoperability and compliance with HL7 standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Interface Development: Design, implement, and configure HL7 interfaces to support data exchange between various healthcare systems, such as Electronic Health Records (EHR), Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), and Health Information Exchanges (HIE).
* Standards Compliance: Ensure that all interfaces adhere to HL7 standards (e.g., HL7 v2.x, HL7 v3) and industry best practices.
* System Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate HL7 interfaces with existing systems, ensuring accurate data flow and interoperability.
* Testing and Validation: Develop and execute test plans to validate interface functionality, data accuracy, and performance. Troubleshoot and resolve issues identified during testing.
* Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for interface designs, configurations, and workflows. Update documentation as changes are made or new systems are integrated.
* Support and Maintenance: Provide ongoing support for HL7 interfaces, including monitoring for performance issues, troubleshooting problems, and implementing updates as needed.
* Stakeholder Communication: Work closely with stakeholders, including healthcare providers and IT professionals, to gather requirements, provide updates, and address any concerns related to interface functionality.
* Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest HL7 standards, technologies, and industry trends to recommend improvements and enhance system capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Technical Skills:
* Certified or becomes exam certified on Epic Bridges.
* Strong knowledge of HL7 standards (e.g., HL7 v2.x, HL7 v3) and their application in healthcare systems.
* Experience with interface engines and integration tools (e.g., Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, Rhapsody).
* Familiarity with healthcare data formats and protocols (e.g., XML, JSON).
* Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex integration issues and optimize interface performance.
* Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
* Education/Experience:
* Experience with additional healthcare interoperability standards and frameworks (e.g., DICOM, IHE).
* Knowledge of data privacy and security regulations (e.g., HIPAA).

Responsibilities:
Under minimal supervision, the IHT Systems Engineer 3 applies creativity along with sound engineering principles to evaluate, design, develop, implement and administer systems, applications, networks and/or associated infrastructures and specialty equipment. This general classification will be used for a wide variety of IHT Engineering specialty roles in the Health System, including Communication, Desktop, Network, Storage, Infrastructure, Test and Integration Engineers.
* Analyzes and defines business requirements and applies broad technical knowledge and best practices to design, develop, administer and maintain data systems in one or more IHT Engineering specialty fields.
* Monitors and measures overall performance and scalability, performs root cause analysis and implements process improvement. Proactively identify potential issues and tunes appropriately.
* Applies engineering expertise to provide technology roadmaps and innovative technical solutions that align with the strategic vision of the health system.
* Assesses and optimizes the performance of new and existing systems and features.
* Works with other functional groups to establish and improve processes; develops and implements policies and procedures governing specialty Engineering discipline.
* May have sole responsibility for projects and participate in disaster recovery exercises or help develop disaster recovery or business continuity plans.
* Develops, maintains and manages the documents and standards for a comprehensive library of support documentation.
* Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
* Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.
* Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group; may act as a lead.
* Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
