Overview:
The Human Resources (HR) Compliance Specialist leads and manages all departmental, city, and state-mandated compliance-related projects. This role ensures that all employees complete all required training, certifications, and standards set forth by the Boston Police Department, the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission, as well as any other regulatory bodies. This role is also responsible for tracking deadlines, conducting audits, and providing compliance-related guidance when necessary. The HR Compliance Specialist collaborates with HR leadership, legal teams, Department bureaus, City Hall, and relevant external agencies to mitigate risk, promote ethical practices, and ensure a culture of compliance.
Responsibilities:
* Monitor and track annual and ongoing compliance requirements for officers and civilians, including training, licensing, and recertifications.
* Lead and oversee Human Resources compliance projects such as Annual Residency, Ethics training, etc.
* Maintain accurate compliance records in departmental tracking systems and databases.
* Assist with audits, reporting, and documentation.
* Collaborate with the Office of the Police Commissioner (OPC), Office of the Legal Advisor (OLA), Officer of Labor Relations, and additional Department Leaders to ensure compliance project objectives are met.
* Monitor local, state, and federal compliance requirements that may affect the Department and ensure adherence to new requirements.
* Provide training and guidance to employees and managers on compliance-related policies and best practices.
* Perform related duties as required by the job.
Qualifications:
* At least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in compliance monitoring, project management, or a related field.
* Appropriate educational substitutions may be made. A bachelor's degree may account for two (2) years of experience.
* Familiarity with POST standards and requirements (preferred but not required).
* Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite applications, or similar programs.
* Leadership, initiative, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Strong organizational and analytical skills, as well as both verbal and written communication skills.
* Proven ability to multitask, plan and execute, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and succeed in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
